A Shocking Discovery

Upon reading and reviewing the site Bros Like This Site, I feel as though I may be a bro.  Which is odd because I'm about as girly as they come, but really?  This site is funny.  And I like a lot of the things that "bros" like such as: Eastbound and Down , Entourage, Sweet Caroline, and Quoting Movies, just to name a few.

Yes, if you leave aside all the having sex with "slam pieces" and the such, I am pretty much a bro according to this site.  And if being a "bro" means having a sense of humor then sign me up, because that stuff is funny!

Missing Summer

About a month ago, I was enjoying the beautiful view in sunny Florida:

It was a wonderful and relaxing trip in which I fell in love all over again with the Florida Panhandle, more specifically Seagrove Beach and Seaside.  But that is another story for another time.

It is hard to believe that I was enjoying that vacation and that warm sunny weather just a month ago.  Now I'm back at home and the leaves are already changing colors and the weather has that cool crisp feeling to it.

I'm sorry.  I know that there are a lot of people that just love fall, but I.just.can't.  I can't bring myself to it.  I can't bring myself to admit that the warm sunny days are over.   Gone are the days of white pants and light cotton skirts and dresses.  Sure fall is pretty and it is nice to have some relief from the heat, but my heart belongs to summer.  It always has and it always will.  For after fall comes winter.  And.I.detest.winter.  Detest.  Cannot stand.  It's dark, gloomy, cold and snowy.  The only good thing about winter is that you know spring and summer are on their way. Why does it always seem like the warm beautiful days of summer are so fleeting, but the winter drags on forever?

Sure there are things I like about fall.  The fashion is fun and it's nice to have a change from your summer wardrobe.  I really enjoy the scents of fall - the cinnamon and pumpkin.  Then there are the delights of pumpkin flavors in your coffee and your pie.

But I'm just going to be honest here - I prefer summer.  I always have and I probably always will.

Back to the Drawing Board

So... one of my 30 Before 30 goals was to have a Flickr account and maintain it.  I thought this would be a good easy place to start on my list of goals.  I remembered that I had started an account a while back so that was step one.  I uploaded a lot of my recent vacation pictures and I realized that I only have like 5% of capacity left.  Talk about a buzz kill.  I thought about upgrading which is $24.99 for a year or some crazy stuff like that.  Now, in looking at my list of 30 goals it's easy to see that a lot of them require money and lots of it.  Do I really want to spend more money on these goals?  Especially one that is just for pictures?  No.  No I do not.  Call me cheap if you will, but I would rather save that money and it put toward a credit card payment or put it in a savings fund for a fertility doctor.

So I'm just sure if I should cross this off my list as "complete" or if I should find another picture hosting site like Photobucket or Snapfish.  One of the reasons I wanted to join Flickr was because of the community that is there.  You can comment on everyone's photos and they are plenty of groups and projects to join in on.  Plus that seems to be where a lot of bloggers upload their pictures.  Do these other sites have those kinds of options.   I don't even know.  So I'm just not sure about how to continue with this goal.  Part of me just wants to mark it as complete as I didn't really fail the task per se. And seeing as how this is my project, I make the rules around here.  I'm just not sure.  It's a little disappointing to be staring off my project in this fashion!  Let's hope my next endeavor turns out a little better!

You Want What You Can't Have

I remember being in college and I couldn't wait until I graduated.  I wanted a full time job, a husband, a house, a family, etc.

Now that I'm grown with a husband:

And a house:

And a dog:

I sometimes wish I was back in college.  I can't be the only one, right?

___________________________________________

I was in a sorority in college and for a year afterwards I served as an advisor, so I'm still friends with some girls on Facebook who are still in school.  When I see their status updates about going back to school, fraternity parties, recruitment, etc., I get a little sad.  It makes me wish I were right back in college when my biggest problem was what to wear to the Pike party or that the Delta Gammas were trying to take our guys.

Then I see them complain about school work and wish they were graduated and I think of that scene from Billy Madison:

3rd Grader: How's high school Billy?
Billy: High school is great. I mean I'm learning a lot. And all the kids are treating me very nice. It's great.
3rd Grader: Gee, I can't wait till I get to "hike" school.
Billy: Don't you say that. Don't you ever say that. Stay here. Stay here as long as you can. For the love of God, cherish it. You have to cherish it.

But I digress....

This weekend I'm going to help the lovely and talented ladies of Delta Zeta with their recruitment and can't think of any place else I'd rather be.  While I wasn't a big fan of recruitment when I was in college, I will enjoy the time I spend back on campus helping the chapter.  For these few hours I'll feel like I'm right back there in college and for a moment in time I'll have the best of both worlds.

Because I'm Awesome...

I wouldn't be the Unomestic Goddess that I am if I didn't miss at least one household chore up.

Yeah, I just shrunk one of my husband's good UK t-shirts.  Why?  Because I'm just that awesome at household chores.

And while I'm making light of the situation here, I really do feel terrible.  Insert sad face here.

The Week Ends the Week Begins

Hello!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful three day weekend.  I know I did! And as always I'm sad to see the weekend go, especially those of the three day variety.  This weekend for us was the perfect mix of busy and relaxing.  Here's what we did:

Friday
Friday night was our date night - high school style.  We went to the mall and enjoyed a delicious food court dinner.  It was cheap and fun.  We then headed over to the movie theater and saw Going the Distance.  I HIGHLY recommend this movie for several reasons.  Its the perfect mixture of chic flick and guy comedy (which I happen to enjoy).  There was romance, but it was also funny, and not that cheesy funny. It also wasn't totally predictable, which is always a big bonus for me because lately it seems every movie I see is a carbon copy of another.  Plus I really enjoy Drew Barrymore.  So all told?  "Two very enthusiastic thumbs up.  Fine Holiday fun!"

Saturday
Saturday was a day I wish all my days were like.  We slept in, got coffee from Starbucks, laid around watching episodes of Entourage, went to Target and just relaxed.  And just so I could say that I wasn't a total waste all day, I actually went and got all domestic by straightening, dusting and vacuuming my entire downstairs.

The evening was spent with some old college friends at a local pizza place and a dueling piano bar.  Have you ever been to a dueling piano bar?  If not, you should go as they are pretty fun if you enjoy listening to good music and singing along.  The coolest part is you can pretty much request anything and they can play it.  Party in the USA?  Done.  Must be the Money?  Done.  Piano Man?  Done.

Sunday
Sunday morning we woke up early, but went to a later mass with my mom and dad and brother and his girlfriend.  We then went to lunch and I promptly came home, read, and took a nap.  It was perfect.  Later in the evening we had some friends and family over for a cookout and to watch the annual fireworks display that goes on around here.

Monday
Monday was spent relaxing with the husband and the dog.  I went to pick up an old piece of furniture from a friend that we're going to rehab (and when I say we I mean my husband) and use as a vanity.  I'm really excited about it!  We then had dinner at my parents house and went to bed early.

Overall it was an awesome weekend, and I wish it didn't end so quickly!

Fall Reading

I've been on a bit of a reading kick ever since my vacation in August in which I read four books.  Yes four books.  Ok, it's not like I was reading great works of literature.  They were more of the Tori Spelling and chick lit variety, but still.  Since then I have been wanting to do nothing but read.  In the time since the vacation (which was in August mind you) I have read the following:

The last book is by Elin Hilderbrand who is an excellent author.  I have read two other books by her and I think she is fabulous.  Her books are set on the island of Nantucket and they have made me want to visit there.  Maybe one day I will!  If you enjoy a quick, easy, entertaining read then I would suggest her.

I'm now reading:

Jodi Picoult is hands down my favorite author.  I seem to love everything she writes.  I enjoy that she makes you look at things from a different perspective.  Sometimes you think you know how you would feel about a situation and then you read her book and suddenly you aren't sure what you believe.  I can never really explain what it is about her books.  I think you just have to read them to understand.

With all this talk about books, I have decided that September will be the beginning of one of my 30 Before 30 Goals - Reading 2 books a month for a year.  I can totally do it!
